By Sangeeta Saxena

New Delhi. 06 May 2025. At Milipol India 2025, Vision Base India made a compelling showcase of its forensic imaging and video analysis solutions tailored for law enforcement and forensic science labs. In an exclusive conversation with ADU, Kaushal Jaitley, Head of Vision Base India, breaks down how their cutting-edge modules—from video authentication to analytics—are shaping the future of evidence validation in India.

ADU. Welcome to Milipol India 2025! What are you showcasing this year?

Kaushal Jaitley. Thank you. At Vision Base India, we offer a comprehensive image and video solution suite for law enforcement—mainly the police and forensic science labs (FSLs). Our system comprises four core modules: authentication, decoding, enhancement, and analytics. Together, they help verify, decode, process, and analyse visual evidence effectively.

ADU. Can you elaborate on how your tools function in real-world law enforcement cases?

Kaushal Jaitley. Absolutely. The first step in any forensic video examination is ensuring that the footage is authentic and untampered. Our product “Videothetics” specializes in detecting image and video tampering. Then, we tackle decoding—many DVRs and CCTV systems use proprietary codecs. Our software supports over 3,000 codec formats, allowing seamless decoding of nearly any footage. Post that, we offer advanced enhancement tools to isolate faces, license plates, or details crucial for court evidence. And finally, our analytics engine helps identify individuals, group movements, or object traces across multiple videos.

ADU. Who are your current clients in India?

Kaushal Jaitley. Our key clients are forensic labs—both central (CFSLs) and state-level FSLs. Some already use our products and have been doing so for over four to five years. This year at Milipol, we’ve seen a very encouraging response from FSL personnel and police officials. Our integrated solution is especially attractive because it reduces the need for multiple products across the workflow.

ADU. How are you contributing to the ‘Make in India’ mission?

Kaushal Jaitley. MH Service, our partner, is a German company with global leadership in cyber forensics. In the last year, we’ve started hardware manufacturing in India and built an R&D division. Our hardware is now designed, sourced, and assembled entirely in India. For Vision Base, the plan is to also build a robust development and support base here, especially to meet India-specific needs, since requirements differ significantly from, say, UK or US law enforcement.

ADU. Will your software be fully developed in India going forward?

Kaushal Jaitley. That’s the roadmap. Vision Base is globally distributed—with teams in the UK, Germany, Turkey, and the US—but we’re now setting up a base in Delhi to develop features suited for Indian policing. We’re also establishing a technical support and development team to serve the South and Southeast Asia market from India. It’s about customization and accessibility.

ADU. What percentage of your solution qualifies as ‘Made in India’? Especially under the government’s mandate of 80% indigenization?

Kaushal Jaitley. That’s a complex question because software today is developed modularly across regions. But yes, we’re planning to do final software compilation and distribution from India, which will bring us very close to meeting that threshold. Our hardware is already fully Indian-made—with no sourcing from China, in alignment with local procurement rules.

ADU. Why are the armed forces not part of your primary client base?

Kaushal Jaitley. Primarily because our current focus is civilian law enforcement—police and forensic teams. But we understand the military has growing forensic and investigative needs, especially through branches like the Judge Advocate General (JAG). So yes, going forward, the armed forces could also be a strategic segment for us, especially given their role in aid to civil power and internal investigations.

ADU. And what is MH Service that we see branded here?

Kaushal Jaitley. MH Service is a global leader in cyber forensic solutions headquartered in Germany, is expanding its footprint in South Asia with a strong emphasis on local manufacturing and technological collaboration. It is our channel partner in the broader region, while Mr. Jignesh Subba serves as CEO of MH Service South Asia. MH Service has recently begun manufacturing its advanced digital forensics hardware in India, aligning closely with the Indian government’s Make in India initiative. It brings European technology to India not only to support this national initiative but also to enhance the capabilities of Indian law enforcement and government agencies. In addition to hardware, MH Service distributes a range of international forensic software solutions, including offerings from vision-based innovation providers.

ADU. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Kaushal Jaitley. Just that our goal is to make forensics smarter, more accessible, and tailored to India’s unique challenges. As we localize and expand, we’re committed to helping law enforcement agencies handle digital evidence with greater accuracy and efficiency.

Vision Base India’s presence at Milipol 2025 marks a significant step toward building indigenous forensic capabilities that support India’s policing and investigation apparatus. With decoding, authentication, and enhancement integrated into a single suite, the company is pushing boundaries—not just with cutting-edge tech, but with a sincere commitment to Make in India. As they lay the foundation for R&D in Delhi, Vision Base is clearly gearing up to serve both national and regional digital forensics needs with Indian solutions for Indian problems.
