New Delhi. 13 June 2026. The Indian Air Force (IAF) suffered a grievous loss on Sunday as an An-32 aircraft met with an accident near Jorhat in Assam, resulting in the death of five personnel. The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom across the defence fraternity and the nation, once again underscoring the risks undertaken daily by the men and women in uniform in service of the country.
The five personnel who lost their lives in the accident were Sqn Ldr Prashant Singh, Flt Lt Shubham Kumar, Sgt Jitendra Sharma, Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat and Agniveervayu Danish Alam. They made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty while serving the nation.
The Indian Air Force, known for its professionalism and unwavering commitment to safeguarding India’s skies, has lost five dedicated air warriors whose courage and service will be remembered with honour and gratitude. While details regarding the cause of the accident are awaited, such incidents serve as a poignant reminder of the inherent risks associated with military aviation operations.
The loss is deeply felt not only within the Indian Air Force but across the wider defence and aviation community. Behind every uniform stands a family that shares the burden of service and sacrifice, making the tragedy all the more profound.
