• Company to host a seminar in conjunction with Keio University discussing the role of Edge AI Computing Platforms like EdgeCortix SAKURA-I™ in reshaping the defense and security industry.

Chiba, Japan. 13 March 2023.  EdgeCortix®Inc., the innovative Edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) Platform company focused on delivering class-leading compute efficiency and ultra-low latency for edge AI and 5G applications, announced that it will be demonstrating the applicability of its Edge AI platform in the defense area, including showcasing its newly released and industry leading SAKURA-I, AI-coprocessor devices.

“We are very pleased to be able to demonstrate the EdgeCortix Edge AI platform, featuring our MERA Software Suite and the new SAKURA-I AI coprocessor to the global defense community at DSEI-JAPAN 2023,” said Sakyasingha Dasgupta, CEO and Founder of EdgeCortix, As we witness the current state of world affairs and its impact on the defense industry, it is clear that the importance of edge-intelligence has never been greater than today. The ability to balance high-throughput and low-latency capabilities, while being low power for real-time AI applications is essential in modern defense and security operations. We look forward to working with our defense partners in helping them rapidly integrate our solutions so they can deliver the most effective and efficient offerings to their end customers. The DSEI-JAPAN event is the perfect occasion to showcase breakthrough technologies like our SAKURA-I to attain and maintain a competitive edge in defense capabilities and ultimately avoid conflicts.”

SAKURA-I is an artificial intelligence focused accelerator device, designed for rapid computations and power-efficient AI-inference, from small to medium form-factor systems. SAKURA-I is especially suited for real-time applications with streaming data, such as high-resolution video feeds, real time controls for autonomous systems, radio-frequency (RF) signal processing or 5G-AI integrated systems. Designed entirely in EdgeCortix’s Japan R&D center, the processor is implemented using TSMC 12nm FinFET technology, delivering industry leading AI inference capabilities across power and mobility sensitive edge devices like aerial or underwater drones, manned and autonomous robotic platforms, visual and perception systems

In addition to demonstrating the EdgeCortix EdgeAI platform, the company will be presenting a seminar on the topic of how Edge AI Computing is Reshaping the defense industry today, featuring Stan Crow, EdgeCortix’s SVP of Defense and Space Technology and Prof. Tomoyuki Furutani of Keio University, Faculty of Policy Management and the head of the Drone Social Co-Creation Consortium at Keio University.

The seminar and follow-up discussion will focus on exploring how Edge AI Technology is transforming the front line and will continue to transform conflict resolutions in the modern day. Key topics to be discussed include:

  • Lessons in Technology, from the current geopolitical environment and modern warfare.
  • The evolution of technology and operating concepts in the context of AI and highlights from present day defense scenarios.
  • The need, impact and on-going role of Edge AI technologies and compute platforms for modern day defense and security.
