New Delhi. 03 January 2024. In compliance of the Central Govt. order, Rahul Rasgotra, IPS, (MA: 89) has taken over the charge of the Director General, Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force  with effect from 1st January 2024.  The officer, before joining the elite Force, was working as the Special Director in the IB.

On October 24, 1962, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Force was established. Currently, the 3,488 km long India-China borders are patrolled by the ITBP, stretching from the Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh to the Karakoram Pass in Ladakh. In addition, the Force plays a significant part in numerous internal security responsibilities and actions against Left Wing Extremism in the state of Chhattisgarh.

The majority of the Border Out Posts (BOPs) of the ITBP are situated at elevations between 9,000 and 18,800 feet, where severe winters can bring temperatures as low as minus 45 degrees Celsius. In addition to receiving intensive tactical training, the nation’s specialised armed police force, the ITBP, also trains its members in mountaineering and skiing, giving the Force a unique identity.
