• The Ministry of Tourism awarded Mumbai International Airport for its tireless initiatives to provide best facilities for passengers

Mumbai, 27 September 2019 – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport managed by GVK Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) is proud to announce that the airport has been awarded the prestigious National Tourism award 2017-18 under the Best Airport in Class X Cities category. The National Tourism Award 2017-18 lauds MIAL’s efforts in providing best facilities for the passengers. Recognised by the Union Ministry of Tourism – Government of India, this is the third year (having previously won it in 2014-15 and 2015-16) that the airport has been conferred with this prestigious honour. Felicitating Mumbai International Airport along with other eminent industry leaders and winners, the award ceremony was held today, 27th September 2019 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

India is expected to be the third largest air transport market of the world by 2026. Accelerating India’s growth, as one of the best airports in the world, MIAL is always thriving towards developing and bringing newer elements for the passengers by providing them with a hassle-free experience. Meticulousness is another specialty where MIAL exceeds by leaps and bounds, the airport is always developing, enhancing and maintaining itself to offer its passengers delight across all age groups, genders and classes as per International Standard. An industry frontrunner in providing maximum passenger delight through its world-class services and facilities, MIAL has introduced and implemented various initiatives to enhance the overall flying experience of the passengers.

Keeping up with its operational excellence, the airport has competently operated a whopping 332,532 flights in total and 963,460 MT of cargo, while it witnessed and served a footfall of 48.8 million passengers in FY2018-19. Furthermore, within just a year, the airport expanded its existing fleet by introducing 8 new domestic and international airlines and expanded and introduced over 9 new destinations. As a technologically advanced airport, MIAL in the recent past has introduced many service-oriented firsts like India’s first salon inside the airport, an advanced food technology to pre-order the meals, delivery of the food to the boarding gates, cultural events to bring to life the forgotten traditions of various cities through installations and carnivals, among other passenger centric initiatives. Similarly, MIAL also introduced a fully automated check-in process, generating boarding pass and baggage tag through ‘Common Use Self Service (CUSS)’ kiosks. Along with the Surface Awareness and Guidance at Airport (SAGA) and implemented paperless boarding for all domestic airlines operating via T2 amongst many other pioneering initiatives, making it a smart-digital airport for the convenience of air travellers. Keeping up with its green initiatives, it is also the first of the airports in the country to release the sustainability report on activities undertaken by the airport.
