Dubai/New Delhi. 28 February 2026. The United Arab Emirates has confirmed that its air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed a new wave of Iranian missiles and drones launched toward the country, marking a significant escalation in the broader Israel–Iran conflict and its regional spillover.

According to a statement issued by the UAE Ministry of Defence, the interception operation was carried out with high efficiency, resulting in only limited material damage. The Ministry confirmed that debris from the intercepted missiles fell in several areas across Abu Dhabi and Dubai. No injuries have been reported.

The Ministry of Defence affirmed that the UAE Armed Forces remain on full operational readiness to counter any threats to national security. It emphasised that comprehensive measures are being taken to address attempts to undermine the country’s stability.

“The safety of citizens, residents, and visitors remains a top priority that cannot be compromised,” the Ministry stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s security amid rising regional tensions.

Describing the targeting as a “blatant violation of national sovereignty and International Law,” the UAE reiterated its full right to take all necessary measures to defend its territory and protect its people. The Ministry stressed that the country will continue to act decisively to preserve its sovereignty, security, and stability.

Authorities also urged the public to rely exclusively on official sources for updates and to refrain from spreading rumours or unverified information, as misinformation could heighten public anxiety during an already tense period.

The attempted strike confirms the widening geographic scope of the Israel–Iran confrontation, with Gulf states increasingly facing the risk of indirect or spillover attacks. The UAE’s swift defensive response highlights the advanced capabilities of its integrated air defence network and signals its preparedness to respond firmly to any external aggression.

While the immediate threat was neutralised without casualties, the incident reflects the volatile regional security environment shaped by the Israel–Iran war. The UAE’s interception of missiles and drones not only reinforces its defence preparedness but also signals its determination to defend national sovereignty amid escalating tensions in West Asia.
