On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, Sitabuldi Fort was opened exclusively to Indian nationals on 15 August 2026. A total of approximately 45,000 visitors from Nagpur and surrounding areas visited the historic fort, which is located within the Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat Sub-Area Complex.
This event follows a similar opening on Republic Day, 26 January 2026, when approximately 27,256 visitors had then visited the fort. The marked increase in footfall on such significant national occasions underscores the growing public interest in India’s military heritage and adds to the grandeur of Sitabuldi Fort. Situated in the heart of Nagpur, the fort stands as a prominent tourist and heritage attraction, evoking memories of the great Maratha legacy and the ancient British.
The visiting public expressed appreciation for the exemplary arrangements and hospitality extended by the soldiers, who managed the event seamlessly despite their routine operational commitments. National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets conducted guided tours for visitors, while patriotic songs were played along the designated heritage route. Large crowds gathered to enjoy the music, with many joining in spontaneous dance, thereby enhancing the patriotic fervour of the occasion.
Comprehensive visitor facilities were provided, including adequate arrangements for drinking water and refreshments. Medical support, including an ambulance, was positioned at both the entrance and exit points. Crowd management from the Railway Gate towards Sitabuldi Fort and within the fort complex was efficiently handled by the Nagpur Police in coordination with the Military Police.
