Nagpur ,18 Feb 2016 : The Ordance Factory Board (OFB) proposal looks out to be soon accepted by the army, after the tests carried out on 5.56mm assault rifle, about a month ago, proved to be successful. OFB director general, AK Prabhakar said .It is being expected that it may replace the current 5.56 Insas rifle. It has been the standard issue weapon for the Indian Army since the mid- 1990s.

In an address at the NADP function, Prabhakar said, “The tests were successful and it is hoped that the Army will accept it.” The newly developed weapon has the feature of rapid fire matching it with the AK-47. The OFB has also developed an assault rifle of 7.62mm calibre which is being offered to para military forces.

The odrdance factories are carrying out production orders worth Rs. 13000 crores which they plan to hike it to Rs. 15000 crores by the next year and to Rs. 20000 crores by the year after, shared the Chief of OFB
