Singapore.01 April 2019. During a recent trip to London, Arun Sharma, Executive Chairman of leading classification society Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass), paid a visit to the IMO’s headquarters to meet with Secretary General  Kitack Lim.

Although the visit was intended to be a courtesy call, a number of important subjects were very broadly discussed including the philosophy behind the United Nations Convention for the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), cyber security, the 2020 sulphur cap and Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS).

“Considering that IRClass is a Vice-Chair of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), it was useful to discuss with Mr. Lim these important issues from a class perspective and I look forward to even greater co-operation between the IMO and IACS when IRClass takes over the Chairmanship at the beginning of July this year,” said  Sharma.

The meeting provided insights into IMO’s views on key topics of interest within the maritime industry.
