New Delhi. 19 February, 2016. The Confederation of Indian industry (Cll) supported by the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship has set up the Strategic Manufacturing Sector Skill Council (SMSSC).

The SMSSC will cater to the Defence (Land and Naval Systems), Ship Building and Ship Repair, Security Equipment, including CPOs and Safety and Fire Fighting Equipment.

Through the SMSSC, the government is aiming to address the existing skill gap in the strategic manufacturing sector, which is going to widen as more manufacturing activities are going to take place due to Government’s Make in lndia initiative. As per a Cll study, 1.5 million persons will need to be trained for this sector in the next 10 years towards which the SMSSC will play an integral part.
