CSMIA celebrates India’s 75th Independence Day

Mumbai. 16 August 2021. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) celebrates the special occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day in honour of the nation’s brave fight against the global pandemic. Proudly portraying its patriotic spirit, Mumbai’s iconic CSMIA was beautifully decorated for the day.

To commemorate the occasion, CSMIA had externally adorned its aesthetic white façade with bright lights in India’s tricolour from August 14-16. Besides, the airport has installed special art installations set up inside the terminal in beautiful tricolours to pay tribute to our freedom fighters. The airport also hosted a magnificent parade put forth by the CISF, followed by the traditional ceremony of flag hoisting and a series of activities and cultural performances that establishes the connect with the passengers of making them understand the struggle made by our freedom fighters and now the frontline workers, and made feel proud of being Indian. The cultural engagement was followed, keeping in mind all the necessary COVID-19 precautions and standard operating measures diligently for the safety of all at the airport.

As the nation marches towards a pandemic free future, the airport also stands at an extraordinary juncture as it embarks upon a new journey with the new set of values and philosophies setting in by the new operator. CSMIA teams also distributed saplings to the arriving passengers, including the Senseveria Green Compacta plant that purifies air by absorbing toxins through its leaves and producing pure oxygen. The sapling symbolises growth and prosperity, extending to the well-wishes of forthcoming goodness and fortune.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19, CSMIA has stood tall as a stalwart during the nation’s battle against the pandemic. From remaining fully functional during the nationwide lockdown to facilitate repatriation efforts and movement of essential goods to the distribution of vaccines across the globe and the import of oxygen concentrators and other aid during the second wave in India, the airport has continuously extended its support in service of the nation. CSMIA takes pride in the brave journey the nation undertook to come so far and takes sincere efforts to install and share the same sense of self-reliance with its passengers.

On Independence Day and for a week, the airport is on high alert with stringent access to regulate entry to airport terminal buildings, all operational areas and other airport facilities. Further, extra security is deployed at the airport to prevent any untoward incidents.
