- High-altitude trials across multiple remote locations demonstrate the capability of indigenous UAV systems for resupply of forward posts
National: BonV Aero, the Bhubaneswar-based uncrewed aerial systems manufacturer, has completed fleet testing of its logistics drones across multiple remote locations in difficult-to-reach, high-altitude terrain, with trials involving payload transport at altitudes ranging from 10,500 to 16,500 feet. The exercise assessed the performance of its heavy-payload UAVs and delivery mechanisms in demanding operating environments.
The trials involved transporting a 32-kg payload, with a focus on the potential of indigenous UAV platforms to support logistics operations at remote, high-altitude posts. By offering an aerial supply option in terrain where conventional transportation can be challenging, such systems could complement existing military logistics networks.
Beyond military resupply, heavy-payload UAVs could have potential applications in emergency response, including the delivery of essential medical supplies to remote locations where difficult terrain or disrupted road connectivity can delay access. With further validation for specific payloads and operating conditions, these platforms could contribute to logistics support for both defence requirements and emergency situations.
BonV Aero is sharing its findings with the Ministry of Defence and other relevant stakeholders.
“Operating a fleet of logistics drones at 16,500 feet is a significant milestone, not just for BonV Aero, but for the future of high-altitude logistics in India,” said Abinash Sahoo, Co-founder and CTO of BonV Aero. “This achievement is a testament to the dedication, perseverance and engineering excellence of our team, which has spent years developing and validating technologies in some of the toughest operating environments. We are proud that these efforts can contribute, in our own way, to supporting our jawans, and we remain committed to developing reliable, indigenous logistics solutions for the armed forces.”
In keeping with operational security practices, BonV Aero has not disclosed the specific trial locations. The latest trials build on the company’s earlier work, including a 30-kg lift to 19,024 feet at Umling La in Ladakh in 2023. Previously, the company also supplied 45 heavy-payload UAVs to the Indian Army’s Eastern Command.
