New Delhi. 28 February 2026. The Indian Armed Forces’ clarion call of JAI – Jointness, Atmanirbharta, and Innovation – represents a transformative doctrine for modern warfare and national security. Jointness signifies seamless integration among the Army, Navy, Air Force, and emerging domains such as cyber and space, enabling unified planning, faster decision-making, and multi-domain operational synergy. In an era of hybrid conflicts and network-centric warfare, no service can operate in isolation; integrated theatre commands and shared capabilities are critical for decisive outcomes. Atmanirbharta reiterates strategic autonomy through indigenous defence production, resilient supply chains, and reduced dependency on external sources—ensuring operational continuity during crises or geopolitical disruptions. Innovation reflects the need to harness cutting-edge technologies such as AI, unmanned systems, space-based assets, electronic warfare, and data-driven intelligence to stay ahead of adversaries who are rapidly modernising. Together, JAI is not merely a slogan but an operational necessity—strengthening combat effectiveness on the battlefield while enhancing preparedness, deterrence, disaster response, and humanitarian operations off it.

Kalam & Kavach 3.0Kalam & Kavach 3.0 to Shape India’s Next Phase of Defence Jointness and InnovationIndia’s premier defence dialogue platform, Kalam & Kavach 3.0, will convene on 14–15 April 2026 in New Delhi, bringing together the highest echelons of the country’s defence and security establishment. The two-day conclave will witness the participation of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Service Chiefs, Chairman DRDO, and senior leadership from the Ministry of Defence, along with leading industry stakeholders and innovators. Positioned as a high-level, outcome-driven forum, Kalam & Kavach 3.0 aims to deepen strategic engagement between policymakers, armed forces leadership, and industry partners at a time when India’s defence transformation is entering an execution-focused phase.

If JAI – Jointness, Atmanirbharta, and Innovation is the battle cry of transformation, then I² – Indigenisation  & International Collaboration is its operational engine. Integration goes beyond inter-service coordination; it weaves together land, sea, air, cyber, and space into a seamless multi-domain force capable of acting faster than the adversary’s decision loop. Indigenisation, meanwhile, converts strategic intent into sovereign capability—designing, developing, and deploying critical platforms, sensors, munitions, and digital systems within India’s own industrial and technological ecosystem. Together, I² ensures that India’s military strength is not only unified in command but also self-reliant in capability—reducing vulnerability to external pressures while accelerating innovation at home. In today’s contested security environment, I² transforms JAI from a powerful vision into a decisive, future-ready defence architecture for India.

Building on the momentum of Kalam & Kavach 2.0 (2025)—widely recognised as “The Year of Reforms”—the 2026 edition marks a decisive progression from policy articulation to structured implementation. The previous conclave catalysed critical conversations around joint theatre commands, AI-enabled and data-driven warfighting, emerging operational doctrines, and the repositioning of Indian industry as a strategic co-developer of national defence capabilities.

66th Republic Day paradeKalam & Kavach 3.0 will take forward the vision of JAI – Jointness, Atmanirbharta, and Innovation—by focusing on translating policy direction into executable pathways. Key discussions will centre on strategic partnerships, accelerated R&D pipelines, test-to-deployment mechanisms, and policy-aligned financing models designed to strengthen India’s defence industrial base.

The deliberations are expected to culminate in a strategic White Paper, capturing actionable recommendations for consideration by senior defence leadership—further reinforcing the forum’s role as a policy-influencing platform. With the presence of India’s top defence decision-makers, Kalam & Kavach 3.0 provides a curated platform for select industry leaders, innovators, and strategic stakeholders to engage directly with policymakers. The conclave seeks to shape policy-aligned narratives while positioning participants at the forefront of India’s defence innovation and manufacturing ecosystem—aligned with national priorities and the broader vision of Viksit Bharat.

As India accelerates its defence modernisation and industrial transformation, Kalam & Kavach 3.0 stands poised to bridge strategy and execution. By advancing the JAI framework through implementation-focused dialogue and industry collaboration, the forum aims to reinforce India’s journey toward joint, self-reliant, and innovation-led defence capability. The April 2026 edition is expected to mark a pivotal step in aligning policy, military doctrine, and industrial strength toward a future-ready national security architecture.
