Indian Army UN peacekeepers of the Indian Rapid Deployment Battalion (INDRDB), deployed at BFI–CHU Camp, responded promptly to a fire incident at Bujovi Quarter, Bunyerezo Avenue, Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo; after an electrical short circuit triggered a blaze that rapidly spread to three adjoining houses in the densely populated residential area.
On reaching the site, the troops immediately took charge of the situation. The Quick Reaction Force cordoned off the area and evacuated approximately 10 to 12 residents to safety, while the Fire Fighting Team simultaneously undertook firefighting operations and searched the affected houses for any persons trapped inside. During the rescue effort, first aid was administered to around six to seven injured civilians.
INDRDB troops also guided and coordinated firefighting teams from LAVA site to the location, ensuring a timely and organised response. Their swift intervention helped contain the fire without any further loss of life or additional damage to property.
The incident highlights the professionalism, preparedness and humanitarian commitment of Indian UN peacekeepers in protecting civilians and responding effectively to emergencies in their area of responsibility.
