The Carl-Gustaf system, along with its wide range of ammunition, has been in service with the Indian army subsequent to the first Supply-cum-Cooperation Agreement to produce in India was signed on 17 April 1976.

The Transfer of Technology under the contract for Carl-Gustaf Weapon M2 and five different types of ammunition was successfully absorbed by Ordnance Factory Board leading to the system being completely Made in India within ten years. Following this, additional contracts for Transfer of Technology for manufacturing have also been signed and successfully executed between the parties.

“Since 1976, FFV Ordnance and the Ordnance Factory Board have been partners for the production of the various Carl Gustaf weapon systems and its family of ammunition. We are looking forward to continue to build on and further deepen this four decade cooperation and to celebrate the anniversary, we are showcasing our newly developed Carl-Gustaf M4 for the first time ever at a land exhibition in India. For me this is very exciting”, says Bo Thörn, Head of FFV Ordnance.

The latest generation of the Carl-Gustaf system, Carl-Gustaf M4, was launched in 2014. The new light-weight system, weighing less than 7 kg, offers significant weight savings to the soldier. It is also compatible with future battlefield technology such as intelligent sighting systems for programmable ammunition.  The new design is also shorter in length, meaning it is easy to carry and handle in different tactical situations. Each of the system’s external components has been carefully examined and redesigned to reduce its weight, along with the major parts of the weapon itself.
