On the bicentenary of Gunners’ Day, the 2 Maharashtra Artillery Battery of the NCC, Nagpur, commemorated the occasion with solemnity and patriotic fervor at the Artillery Memorial at Aath Rasta Chowk, Laxmi Nagar.” This historic memorial holds special significance for the unit, as a vintage cannon was installed there by Lieutenant Colonel Pratap Jog, who had previously commanded the unit. The memorial stands as a proud tribute to the indomitable spirit and sacrifices of the Gunners.

The event commenced with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial to pay homage to the fallen Bravehearts. The ceremony was graced by Major General Achyut Deo (Retired), Chief Guest at the event. In his address to the gathering, he recounted the glorious 200-year legacy of the Regiment of Artillery and highlighted its pivotal role in safeguarding the nation.

On this occasion, the unit’s achiever cadets were felicitated by the veteran General Officer for their exemplary performance. In a touching gesture, three Veer Naris (war widows) were also honoured in recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by their families. The event was attended by Lieutenant Colonel Ameya Deelip Kanade, Officer Commanding of 2 Maharashtra Artillery Battery, alongside six Permanent Instructor Staff, 30 cadets, three Veer Naris, 40 ex-servicemen, and five unit alumni.

The entire area reverberated with patriotic fervour as onlookers and passers-by stopped to pay their respects and join the celebrations. The solemn ceremony concluded with the singing of the National Cadet Corps song, followed by refreshments and a group photograph. Necessary coordination was carried out with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation and the City Police to ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of the event.”
