Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, 01 October 2026: SalamAir, Oman’s low-cost carrier, today welcomed Eng. Yaqoob Al Kiyumi as he officially begins his role as Chief Executive Officer, joining the airline at an important stage in its continued growth and development.Eng. Yaqoob joins SalamAir with nearly 29 years of leadership and management experience across a range of sectors. As he begins his journey with the airline, his initial focus will be on engaging with SalamAir’s people, understanding the business and working closely with teams across the organisation to build on the progress achieved over recent years.
Commenting on his first day, Eng. Yaqoob Al Kiyumi, Chief Executive Officer of SalamAir, said: “I am very pleased to begin my journey with SalamAir and, most importantly, to meet and work alongside the people who have built this airline into what it is today. SalamAir has achieved significant growth in a relatively short period, supported by the commitment, energy and hard work of its people.
“My priority is to listen, learn and work closely with our teams as we build on these achievements and prepare SalamAir for its next stage of growth. As we approach our 10th anniversary, it is an important moment to reflect on how far the airline has come and, more importantly, look ahead to what we can achieve together. We have a strong foundation and an exciting future ahead, with opportunities to expand our network, enhance the experience we offer our customers and continue making travel more accessible to the communities and markets we serve.”
Eng. Yaqoob takes the helm as SalamAir continues to expand its network and operations, supported by a modern fleet of 18 aircraft and a growing international footprint. The airline’s next phase will focus on sustainable growth, expanding connectivity into promising markets, strengthening the customer experience and continuing to contribute to Oman’s tourism and economic development.
This next chapter comes at an important time for Oman’s wider aviation sector, as the National Aviation Strategy 2040 moves into implementation. Aligned with Oman Vision 2040, the strategy places greater emphasis on developing aviation as an integrated economic and development ecosystem, strengthening air connectivity and increasing collaboration across the sector.
Eng. Yaqoob added: “SalamAir has an important role to play within Oman’s aviation ecosystem. Our growth is not only about adding aircraft or destinations; it is about creating greater connectivity for Oman, supporting tourism and opening new opportunities for people and businesses.
“The next phase also presents an important opportunity to work even more closely with our partners across the aviation ecosystem. Prior to joining SalamAir, Eng. Yaqoob held senior leadership positions across Oman’s energy and industrial sectors, including Energy Advisor at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Advisor to the Group CEO of Nama Holding and Chief Executive Officer of Oman Power & Water Procurement Company, as well as leadership roles with Sohar Aluminium, OXY Oman and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).
