New Delhi. 26 July 2023.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tributes to martyrs of Kargil War on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Modi said that Kargil Vijay Diwas brings to the fore the heroic saga of those wonderful bravehearts of India, who will always remain an inspiration for the countrymen.

In one of his previous tweets he had shared, “During the Kargil War in 1999, I had the opportunity to go to Kargil and show solidarity with our brave soldiers. This was the time when I was working for my Party in J&K as well as Himachal Pradesh. The visit to Kargil and interactions with soldiers are unforgettable.”

It may be recalled that the Prime Minister spent the festival of Diwali last year with the troops at Kargil . He lauded their spirits and thanked them for keeping the nation safe, In a previously aired Mann Ki Baat, the PM’s monthly talk on All India Radio, he had exhorted, ” India was then trying to have cordial relations with Pakistan, but it is said that it is in the nature of the wicked to have enmity with everyone for no reason.” The prime minister said Pakistan undertook the “sinister misadventure” to capture Indian land and to divert attention from its internal problems.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed on July 26 every year, marking successful conclusion of the war with Pakistan in the Kargil-Drass sector of Jammu and Kashmir in 1999. The Indian soldiers successfully gained back the high-altitude outposts occupied by Pakistani intruders culminating in Operation Vijay on the day. Over 500 Indian armed forces personnel laid down their lives during the 60-day long war.
