New Delhi 05 Aug, 2026:  The Government has announced an ambitious Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat with a target of reaching a nuclear power capacity of 100 GW by 2047. Nuclear Power Projects are having a Project/ Construction period of 10-12 years. No specific Nuclear Power Projects have been sanctioned after the Middle East conflict.

The details of Nuclear Power Projects under various stages of implementation and those planned are tabulated in Annexure.

There have been apprehensions in a section of the people at few sites, about safety of the site & plant, issues related to Rehabilitation, and fears of loss of traditional means of livelihood like fishing and horticulture. The apprehensions have been addressed through public awareness programmes adopting a multipronged approach in a credible manner. Highest priority is accorded to safety in all aspects of nuclear power viz. siting, design, construction, commissioning, and operation. Further, safety is not static and improvements/ upgrades are effected in nuclear power plants based on evolving global standards, events and operating experience feedback.

This information was given by Union Minister of State for Prime Minister’s office and Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
