New Delhi. 26 June 2026. Union Minister for Civil Aviation  Ram Mohan Naidu reviewed the progress of the under-construction New Terminal Building at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, Varanasi, during his visit on June 24, 2026. The Minister held a detailed review with officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the executing agencies, and directed all stakeholders to complete the project within the next six months, well ahead of the scheduled timeline. He assured full support from the Ministry to ensure timely completion.

The approximately ₹2,870 crore airport expansion project is progressing at a robust pace, with the new terminal building already achieving significant physical progress. The Minister also reviewed the project’s progress through AAI’s Sangam digital monitoring platform, which enables real-time tracking of airport infrastructure projects across the country through daily progress updates.

The existing terminal at Varanasi Airport has reached its passenger handling capacity. The new terminal, spread across nearly 75,600 square metres, is being developed to handle 6 million passengers annually, with 72 check-in counters, eight aerobridges, modern baggage handling systems, multi-level car parking and enhanced passenger amenities. Inspired by the architectural elements of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, the world-class terminal has been designed to cater to the rapidly growing passenger traffic and increasing tourist footfall to the spiritual capital of India.
