New Delhi.26 April,2016. The “Nationwide Emergency Response System” project that seeks to establish a modern emergency response system by connecting police with the citizens, includes integrating Police and other ER services such as Ambulance, Fire etc. The project includes establishment of an Integrated Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) platform for supporting Geographical Information System (GIS) based call taking and Geographical Positioning System (GPS) based Police vehicle dispatch to respond to emergency calls.

The proposed system is to be implemented in 114 identified cities that include 54 cities having a population of more than four million, and 41 highly crime prone districts.

The project would be funded and implemented Centrally. The Centre would coordinate with States/UTs to roll out the proposed system. Vehicle dispatch system would be managed by States/UTs. Also, the present emergency contact services in the States/UTs would be utilized in parallel till the proposed system matures. An MoU has been signed by the Centre with three States so far. The MoU has been circulated to other States for similar action.
