National, September 28, 2026 – For Indian travellers, planning a trip means carefully weighing when to book tracking fares, calculating whether to book or wait, and often second-guessing if the fare might drop after the booking is confirmed. Addressing this fare anxiety, MakeMyTrip’s Price Drop Protection, a newly launched feature, refunds the difference if the flight fare drops after a traveller books. With this feature, travellers can book early with confidence, knowing they will benefit if a lower fare becomes available before departure.

The pattern of careful deliberation amongst Indian travellers shows up in their booking behaviour. They search for the same flights multiple times before finally booking. And when they eventually book, it often comes close to the date of travel.

Travellers recheck fares so often because travel plans are still taking shape; personal and work commitments can shift, and there is a constant keenness to secure the best possible fare. This is what drives the pattern of prolonged searching and late booking. Price Drop Protection is designed to ease this uncertainty and encourage travellers to plan early.

The feature covers one-way and round-trip bookings across domestic and international flights. Travellers can opt in by clicking on Price Drop Protection at the time of booking, starting at INR 229 per person for domestic flights and INR 349 per person for international flights. Since its rollout in a testing phase, it has evolved to gain traction with travellers. Among those who opted for it, an encouraging portion saw a price drop on both domestic and international flights, an indication that the feature is resonating with travellers looking for greater assurance while booking.

The maximum refund on the fare difference is INR 2,500 per person for domestic flights and INR 3,000 per person for international flights. This feature covers price drops from the time of booking up to six hours before departure. If the fare drops within this window, MakeMyTrip notifies the traveler directly. The refund is credited to the traveller’s original mode of payment.

Price Drop Protection joins MakeMyTrip’s existing flight assurance suite, which includes Zero Cancellation and Free Date Change. With this launch, the suite now extends beyond cancellation and schedule changes to also cover post-booking price movement.
