New Delhi. 24 January 2019. Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) has secured a contract for the provision of classification services for 4 large survey vessels for the
Indian Navy. These 110 metre vessels, which will be constructed by
the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd., Kolkata, are the largest hydrographic survey vessels ever constructed for the Indian Navy.

IRClass has also been awarded classification services of 2 diving
support vessels by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd., Visakhapatnam to be built
for the Indian Navy. These are the first ever specialised diving support
vessels to be constructed in India. Arun Sharma, Executive Chairman, said, “I am pleased that IRClass has won these prestigious Naval contracts for our classification services. We had envisioned strong opportunities in Defence sector which led to the creation of Defence Division in IRClass. These orders
have come in the wake of our development of Naval Rules and
Guidelines, with the co-operation of the Indian Navy, to meet the
specialist needs of naval vessels.”

“We began developing Naval Rules in 2006, and the latest version of
these rules was promulgated in 2015. Securing of these orders has
enabled IRClass to take a great leap forward in classing sophisticated
naval vessels and we hope to continue our partnership with the Indian
Navy and Coast Guard for future projects,” he continued.
