The Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon 2026 (SIM–26) was successfully conducted in Mumbai on 04 October 2026, bringing together citizens, fitness enthusiasts, serving personnel, veterans and youth for a celebration. The event was organised by Headquarters Maintenance Command of Indian Air Force in Mumbai, while being also conducted at seven cities in the country.
Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon 2026 (SIM-26) commemorates the supreme sacrifice and valour of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC whose unparalleled courage and devotion to duty during the defence of Srinagar in 1971, continues to inspire generations. By honouring the enduring legacy of this IAF legend, the marathon aims at promoting the values and ethos of the IAF in general and the Defence Forces in particular. The marathon is also aligned with the Fit India Movement launched by the Government of India aimed at promoting the importance of fitness.
Despite the humid conditions, approximately ten thousand participants took part in the marathon under various categories. One of the major highlights was the presence of senior citizens including Air Veteran Gp Capt Bhabani Shankar Dash (Retd).
Air Mshl Yalla Umesh, VSM, PhD, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command flagged off the marathon. Mrs. Sreevalli, President AFFWA (Regional), Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, PVSM, AVSM, NM, FOC-in-C, WNC and other senior officers of the Indian Defence Forces were present. The Guest of Honour was the U-19 cricket captain of India Ayush Mhatre who gave award to the worthy winners.
The successful conduct of SIM–26 Mumbai reaffirmed the enduring bond between the Indian Air Force and the citizens of Mumbai, while ensuring that the inspiring legacy of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon continues to motivate generations to come.
