Rio de Janeiro . 07 April 2019 . Brazilian armed forces not only got a great visibility but also utilised the home turf show LAAD 2019 to fill their security needs by signing a lot of procurement contracts.

During the fair, the Navy emphasizes initiatives such as the Nuclear Program, the Construction of the Nucleus of Naval Power and the Obtainment of Operational Capacity. The highlight of the event for the Force was the announcement of the best offer from the consortium Águas Azuis at the opening of LAAD on Tuesday (2). Embraer Defense & Security and Atech, in a strategic partnership with the German Thyssenkrupp Marine System, were selected for the construction of four defense ships in the Corvetas Classe Tamandaré Program.

In the morning, on Thursday (04), the signing of the agreement for the acquisition of armored boats between Marinha and the Brazilian company DGS Defense took place. The quick-action vessels with ballistic protection will be employed in the patrolling activities of Todos os Santos Bay and nearby.  

“For the Navy, participation in LAAD is an excellent opportunity to expose our strategic projects to society and industrial defense base, in addition to strengthening our contact with important companies in the sector,” said the director of the Center for Social Communication of the Navy, Almirante Luiz Roberto Valicente.

On the outside of the event, the Maritime Force displayed aircraft and vehicles for visitors. Almirante Ilques Barbosa, in the internal booth, received delegations from friendly countries and the general director of the Navy’s material, Admiral Luiz Henrique Caroli, was with companies interested in showing products and services. 

The Army also brought to LAAD two environments, one with more technical content, for meetings with national and international companies, other Forces, the industrial and academic sectors. The other space contains the Army material section, located at the East Military Command stand, in the outside area of ​​Hall 4.

To confirm the importance of the fair, Generals Eduardo Villas Boas and Edson Leal Pujol, respectively old and current Army commanders, were present at the event. For the land-based spokesperson, Colonel Alexandre Mega, LAAD enables the training and motivation of professionals. “We have several schools and military organizations from the Army coming to visit the fair, because it is important to keep our personnel trained in what is most advanced in the technology market,” he said.

The priorities of the presence of the Earth Force at the fair are described in its Strategic Plan and Portfolio. They are: the ASTROS 2020 projects, Cyber ​​Defense, Border Surveillance System, Army Aviation, Air Defense, Protect and the New Family of Guarani Armor.

With a 250 square meter booth, the Aeronautics was designed to explore the institution’s operations and exhibit projects, products, technologies and services developed nationally.

Colonel Denys Martins de Oliveira highlighted the importance of the Air Force’s presence in LAAD 2019, which brought visitors the three main strategic projects. The F-39 Gripen, which in the medium term will replace all other fighter aircraft in operation, the KC-390, multi-mission aircraft developed by Embraer and the Strategic Space Systems Program (PESE). Also present are 11 other projects, products, services and technologies developed by military organizations in the areas of operation, science and technology, and air traffic control.  

The 1st Troop Transport Group, in Wing 2, in Anápolis (GO), will be the first FAB operational unit to receive the first KC-390 aircraft, due to be delivered in 2019. Gripen is in the final stages of production and will make the first flight later this year in Sweden. Delivery of the 36 aircraft starts from 2021.
