London, England. 12 September 2019.Raytheon Anschütz is partnering with shipbuilder and integrator Babcock and Thales to deliver its Warship Integrated Navigation and Bridge Systems, or WINBS, to the United Kingdom Royal Navy’s new Type 31e frigates.

With WINBS on the Type 31e, Raytheon Anschütz is now the bridge systems provider for all new Royal Navy combatants. The WINBS designed for the Type 31e Arrowhead 140 is the latest in Integrated Navigation and Bridge System technology for warships.

It can be scaled to specific customer needs, in terms of both capital expenditure and potential system enhancement. WINBS operates with independent and redundant navigational data distribution systems, and is compatible with many in-service sensors and systems. The navigation system for Type 31e will be built in the UK.

The WINBS for the 31e frigates draws on the successful system design for the Type 45 Destroyers, which have been in service for more than 10 years. It also expands on the core Type 26 design which uses Raytheon Anschütz IMO compliant SYNAPSIS Integrated Bridge architecture combined with tactical features and customer-specific enhancements.

By leveraging the same core architecture for the Type 26 and Type 31e, the UK MoD will see significant efficiencies in through-life support and reduced delivery times for upgrades and system additions to front line units.

The WINBS design will reduce development non-recurring costs while providing the Royal Navy with a modern, proven and highly effective bridge system.

Significant investment into the Portsmouth-based Raytheon Anschütz UK Navigation Centre of Excellence will support the new software build, integration, and future support phases of Royal Navy equipment.
