- Kapri Corp’s National Head (Sales) Dhiraj Chhabra reiterates indigenised innovation
By Sangeeta Saxena
New Delhi. 02 May 2025. India is witnessing a sharp rise in internal security threats driven by a complex mix of factors including cybercrime, terrorism, cross-border infiltration, left-wing extremism, and radicalisation. The growing use of sophisticated technology by hostile actors—ranging from encrypted communication and drones to deepfakes and cyber-attacks—has further complicated the security landscape. Urban centres, critical infrastructure, and public institutions face heightened risks, while social media continues to be exploited for misinformation and recruitment. As threats become more asymmetric and multi-domain, India’s internal security apparatus must adapt rapidly with advanced surveillance, intelligence gathering, and coordinated law enforcement strategies to safeguard national stability.
As India continues to confront complex internal threats ranging from cross-border terrorism to domestic extremism, Kapri Corp has positioned itself as a key player in the country’s homeland security landscape. At Milipol India 2025, the company presented a robust portfolio of more than 30 homegrown and integrated solutions in EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), surveillance, drone/anti-drone systems, and advanced screening technologies. In an exclusive conversation with ADU, Dhiraj Chhabra, National Head (Sales) at Kapri Corp, shares insights into their mission, their client base that includes the Indian Army and paramilitary forces, and how indigenisation is empowering national security.
ADU. You have a large presence at Milipol India this year. What are you showcasing?
Dhiraj Chhabra. We’re focused on homeland security, primarily addressing inland civilian challenges. Our key verticals include scanning and screening, EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), drones and anti-drone technologies, surveillance and counter-surveillance systems. These solutions are used extensively by paramilitary forces and also by the Indian Army. Kapri Corp has been serving these segments since 2006—this is our 19th year in the business.
ADU. When you talk about homeland security, does that include paramilitary forces?
Dhiraj Chhabra. Yes, definitely. The paramilitary forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs play a crucial role in maintaining internal security, especially in areas affected by Naxalite and Maoist activity. We provide them with mine clearance, IED detection and disposal tools, and even telemedicine support systems in conflict zones like Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Bihar. These are field-proven, high-reliability solutions.
ADU. Are you also working with the Indian Army?
Dhiraj Chhabra. Very much so. The Indian Army, particularly the Northern Command, has been a major client. We’ve delivered protective gear like bomb suits, anti-mine suits, and search suits. Our solutions support both internal security and border defence.
ADU. Do you have international technology partnerships?
Dhiraj Chhabra. Yes, we have strong technology transfer partnerships with multiple countries, especially with Russia. We operate on a full Transfer of Technology (ToT) basis for many systems. Since we offer a wide range of over 30 solutions, it’s not practical to manufacture every component in-house. But we’ve struck the right balance by localising enough to maintain full control over service, support, and system calibration tailored to Indian environmental and operational conditions.
ADU. Is your supply chain fully Indian?
Dhiraj Chhabra. That varies across product categories. For first-responder equipment like portable explosive detectors and compact radars, we’ve achieved 50–55% indigenisation. However, some electronic components still need to be sourced from abroad. Nothing from China—that’s a strict policy. Even batteries are off-limits. Government regulations on sourcing from land-border-sharing countries are very clear, and we follow them to the letter.
ADU. Can you tell us more about your product range?
Dhiraj Chhabra. Absolutely. We have systems for detecting IEDs, narcotics, chemical and radiological agents. We manufacture packet scanners deployed in Indian airports, developed under a ToT from Brazil. Our modern fencing solutions, equipped with multi-sensor integration, are ideal for sensitive installations like refineries and high-security government facilities. All of this is developed with end-user feedback in mind.
ADU. Are you exporting your products?
Dhiraj Chhabra. Yes, we are permitted to export and have already done so. We’ve supplied to Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and most recently Qatar. That said, the domestic demand is so high that we’ve not yet actively pursued many of the export leads we receive daily from countries like Vietnam, Malaysia, and South Korea. But expanding our international footprint is part of our plan.
ADU. Where are your facilities located?
Dhiraj Chhabra. Our main manufacturing facility and R&D centre are in Mumbai. We also have a production unit in Noida and registered offices in cities like Lucknow and Patna. We employ around 70 field engineers across India to ensure 99% uptime. Every product comes with a 10-year maintenance contract, and in some cases, we are maintaining systems even after 12 years of deployment.
ADU. That’s impressive. Anything else you’d like to add?
Dhiraj Chhabra. Only that we are proud to be a Make in India company solving uniquely Indian problems with relevant, field-tested technologies. Our diverse portfolio—ranging from detection to disposal to protection—has been developed with deep insights into the challenges faced by our armed forces and paramilitary units. We believe in long-term partnerships and delivering not just products, but peace of mind.
