Moscow. 17 August 2022.  Colonel General Alexander Fomin, Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, held talks with Alain Tribert Mutabazi, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Burundi. The meeting took place on the sidelines of X Moscow Conference on International Security. According to the Russian Deputy Minister, Russia and Burundi have built their bilateral relations on the principles of mutual respect and consideration for each other’s interests.

“We note that Russian-Burundian relations are built exclusively on the principles of mutual respect and consideration for each other’s interests,” said Colonel General Alexander Fomin.

In turn, Alain Tribert Mutabazi expressed his gratitude to the Russian leadership for supporting Burundi during a difficult period in 2015, when EU and US countries imposed sanctions against the country.

The sides discussed defence cooperation projects and exchanged views on topical issues of regional security on the African continent. The meeting confirmed the mutual intention to further build up multidimensional cooperation.
