Chennai. 07 October 2025. The excitement was palpable as Tamil Nadu made a bold declaration of intent with Dr. T.R.B. Raja, the Minister for Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce addressed a jam packed hall at the inaugural edition of AeroDefCon 2025 , underlining the state’s ambition to become the strategic backbone of India’s aerospace and defence industrial ecosystem.
“I welcome you all to this edition on behalf of the Department of Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce,” Dr. Raja began, extending a special welcome to the Consul Generals and representatives from 19 countries. “It’s a very, very special and proud moment for Tamil Nadu to host this first-ever edition, which we are calling AeroDefCon 2025,” he announced with pride.
Why this event, and why now? Dr. Raja answered with clarity and conviction, “Tamil Nadu is standing up—and when Tamil Nadu stands up, it stands up for India.” He reflected on the global shift towards strategic self-reliance and asserted, “In this new era, self-reliance is not an option but a necessity, and Tamil Nadu is rising as one of the strongest defence industrial pillars for the nation. Thanks to the leadership and vision of our Honourable Chief Minister, Thiru M.K. Stalin.”
While expressing gratitude to the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for his continued encouragement, Dr. Raja acknowledged that the Minister could not attend due to an international commitment. “We are extremely grateful and thankful to the Honourable Minister,” he said.
He also thanked senior leadership in the defence ecosystem, including the Secretary Defence, Chairman DRDO, CMDs of DPSUs, and collaborators such as Franklin of AIDAT, Stefan and Ashwini of BCI Aerospace, among others. “Organising an event of this scale reflects how serious Tamil Nadu is about defence, aerospace, and strategic industries,” the Minister affirmed.
In what he called “another value Tamil Nadu is adding to India,” Dr. Raja stated, “Tamil Nadu is the manufacturing powerhouse of India,” and this event positions the state as India’s premier platform for self-reliance, indigenisation, and global supply chain integration in aerospace and defence.
He outlined the decentralised innovation model championed by the Chief Minister: “Instead of concentrating capabilities in one city, our Honourable Chief Minister MK Stalin has ensured distributed growth and innovation across the state.”
The Minister cited real-world examples of Engineering design for Boeing’s Dreamliner, In-flight entertainment systems for global aviation, Satellite communication support for Intelsat and Viasat, Aircraft batteries for global platforms., Components for Tatra vehicles, 85-member Honeywell team designing avionics and Missile systems being built for European partners in various locations in the state and this list is not exhaustive. “These examples show the real strength of Tamil Nadu—an ecosystem that is widely distributed, deeply capable, and globally connected,” he said.
With over 300 companies and 1,000 delegates, and more than 5,500 B2B meetings planned across three days, AeroDefCon 2025 has already emerged as one of India’s most significant aerospace and defence conventions. Dr. Raja concluded, “this is showing the world how industrial strength, strategic vision, and social responsibility can move forward together—building a secure, self-reliant and prosperous future for India.”
Tamil Nadu already boasts dedicated aerospace and defence parks, with strategic developments underway across the state. A new park is being established near Coimbatore, benefitting from a robust local ecosystem that supports aerospace and manufacturing activities. In Hosur, which shares its border with Bengaluru and hosts the Air Works MRO facility, plans are advancing for a new airport. This airport is set to house a significantly expanded MRO complex. Further north, the upcoming Greenfield Parandur Airport near Chennai will feature a sprawling MRO zone exceeding 1,000 acres. Complementing these initiatives, developments are also taking place in Kannadugathan in southern Tamil Nadu, where pilot training facilities are being set up. Together, these initiatives reflect the state’s holistic approach to developing a comprehensive aerospace and defence ecosystem, with Coimbatore, Chennai, Hosur, and Kannadugathan forming key strategic nodes.
“Tamil Nadu offers the best incentive packages in the country—not just on paper, but in practice. What we promise, we deliver. That’s why major investors knock on our door first. We don’t inflate our numbers to impress—we stay realistic and reliable. Our incentives are tied directly to job creation and regional development. In fact, if you choose to invest beyond Chennai or Coimbatore, the incentive structure becomes even more attractive,” concluded Dr. Raja.
Tamil Nadu is not pitching from the sidelines anymore. It is all set to take the centre stage. “Every Dot on the Map of Tamil Nadu is Investment-Ready,” is the mantra with which the state is marching forward. AeroDefCon 2025 is more than just an event—it is Tamil Nadu’s bold pitch to be the nerve centre of India’s aerospace and defence ambitions. Dr. T.R.B. Raja’s speech showcased the state’s distributed manufacturing prowess, commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat, and ability to partner globally while building indigenously. The scale of the event, the quality of participation, and the leadership’s vision have made it a defining moment in India’s defence industrial story.
