Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi unveiled a book titled “Bhartiya Sena: Ek Ladai Paryavaran Ke Naam” authored by Lieutenant Colonel (Dr) Chetan V. Dhawad, SM, at the Army Commanders’ Conference in Delhi. General Dwivedi has endorsed the book with his foreword, calling attention to the urgency of the subject and reinforcing the message that protecting the environment is as vital as defending the nation. The book explains the complex subject of climate change in simple words for all jawans of Indian Armed Forces inspiring them to become ‘Climate Warriors’.
Earlier this year, Lt Col Dhawad, had authored an English book titled “Indian Defence Forces to Combat Climate Change: Green Defence”, which highlights climate change as a ‘threat multiplier’ and ‘destabilising force’ for many countries. Increasing frequency of extreme weather events has multiplied the armed force’s role in disaster relief, demanding a review of equipment and relief strategies. To combat climate change author highlights positive role being played by defence forces by adopting sustainable living where environmental stewardship is seen both as a strategic imperative and an ethical duty.
