(Ho Chi Minh City, August 16, 2025) – Vietjet is set to operate commercial flights powered by Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) originally blended in the country, marking a significant milestone in Asia’s transition toward greener aviation.

The breakthrough comes as part of a strategic partnership between Vietjet and Petrolimex Aviation, the aviation fuel subsidiary of Vietnam’s leading petroleum group, Petrolimex. The collaboration was officially announced during a signing ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City, attended by senior government aviation officials and company executives.

Under this partnership, Petrolimex Aviation is supplying Vietjet with its first-ever 1,200 cubic meters of SAF blended at its Nha Be Oil Depot using imported synthetic blending components (SBC). The SAF meets the stringent ISCC EU standards, ensuring full compliance with global sustainability and emissions reduction criteria.

Vietjet Standing Vice President To Viet Thang said: “This agreement between Vietjet and Petrolimex Aviation underscores our commitment to green and sustainable development goals. With a total of 576 modern aircraft on order, our fleet will increasingly incorporate SAF as part of our efforts to promote clean energy, reduce emissions, protect the environment and support the green transition in Vietnam and globally.”

Uong Viet Dung, Director General of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, remarked: “The introduction of domestically blended SAF is not only commercially significant but also strategically important, laying the foundation for a sustainable domestic SAF supply chain while meeting international market requirements. Moreover, it encourages cooperation among airlines, fuel suppliers, regulators, and financial institutions to expand SAF usage in Vietnam.”

Petrolimex Chairman Pham Van Thanh stated: “Petrolimex has proactively invested in research and mastered the technology to blend SAF at our Nha Be Oil Depot. We are also the first company in Vietnam to import SBC—hydrocarbons synthesized from biologically renewable materials—for SAF production. This success demonstrates our commitment to supporting the government, airlines, and broader society in the green transition.”

This partnership builds on Vietjet’s earlier success in October 2024, when it also partnered with Petrolimex Aviation to operate the first two flights using SAF fueled in Vietnam. Produced from renewable and sustainable sources such as used cooking oil, agricultural by-products, wood biomass, and urban waste, SAF is fully certified for commercial use and can reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% over its lifecycle compared to conventional jet fuel.

As a recognized leader in corporate sustainability, Vietjet was the first Vietnamese airline to publish an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) report. The airline continues to advocate for SAF adoption and remains committed to supporting Vietnam’s National Green Growth Strategy and the global goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
