Pune, Maharashtra: 11th August 2025: Pune Police have significantly enhanced their surveillance capabilities through the use of aerial drones, integrating them into mobile operations and command infrastructure to act as dynamic “aerial cops.” The use of these UAVs compresses timelines and conserves manpower, providing real-time intelligence in critical situations. They are fully indigenously manufactured by Sagar Defence Engineering Private Limited, in alignment with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Their deployment under the Pune Smart City initiative has not only strengthened on-ground intelligence but also positioned Pune as a leader in tech-driven law enforcement. Pune Police’s rapid adoption of drone technology marks a significant shift toward smarter, mobile-first policing, with UAVs now playing a central role in surveillance, crowd monitoring, and emergency response. These drones—capable of real-time video streaming, thermal imaging, and autonomous launch and landing from mobile surveillance vans—have enhanced operational agility and reduced reliance on traditional manpower.
Complementing the drones, the Pune Police deployed five high-tech Mobile Surveillance Vans (MSVs). Each van can be integrated with the UAV, as it has the special ability to take off and land from moving vehicles. This configuration allows real-time aerial inputs and intelligence-driven responses from a moving command vehicle, bolstering both situational awareness and rapid deployment capabilities.
Captain Nikunj Parashar, CEO and Founder of Sagar Defence Engineering, stated,” At Sagar Defence Engineering, our vision has always been to create indigenous, mobile-first solutions that empower real-time decision-making and enhance operational efficiency. We are grateful to the Pune Police for deploying our technology in their mission to build a safer, smarter city, and we look forward to this collaboration marking a significant step towards the future of intelligent policing in India under the guidance of the Honourable Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis Ji and Honourable Deputy Chief Minister Shri Ajiit Pawar Ji.”
This integration of aerial surveillance with mobile command and control exemplifies Pune Police’s shift toward smarter policing. Such technology enables continuous monitoring of crime hotspots, enhances responsiveness in emergencies, and streamlines coordination between field teams and the control centre. Together, these capabilities—ranging from rapid-response nighttime drone operations and thermal imaging for locating fugitives, to integration with Mobile Surveillance Vans and centralised intel systems—give Pune Police a tactical edge. They extend operational reach, enhance decision-making under pressure, and represent a clear evolution in urban surveillance and policing strategy under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, and the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Ajiit Pawar, to build an ecosystem that today powers frontline policing across Maharashtra.
