Tokyo, Japan. 22 May 2025.  A high-level all-party Indian parliamentary delegation led by H.E. Shri Sanjay Kumar Jha, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, is on a visit to Japan from 22–24 May 2025. The visit underlines growing Indo-Japanese collaboration on pressing global security challenges, particularly counter-terrorism.

On the first day of the visit, the delegation held an important meeting with H.E. Mr Takeshi Iwaya, Hon’ble Foreign Minister of Japan. Expressing condolences for the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, Foreign Minister Iwaya strongly condemned terrorism in all forms and expressed solidarity with India and the international community in confronting such acts.

During the discussion, H.E. Shri Sanjay Kumar Jha described the Pahalgam attack as a cowardly act aimed at destabilising peace and progress in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted India’s precise and proportionate response through Operation Sindoor, noting it was conducted in a non-escalatory manner, demonstrating India’s commitment to responsible state conduct.

Reaffirming India’s zero tolerance policy towards terrorism, Shri Jha urged Japan to support the implementation of the UN Security Council Press Statement dated 25 April 2025. The statement calls for accountability of the perpetrators, organisers, financiers, and sponsors of the Pahalgam attack.

In response, Foreign Minister Iwaya appreciated India’s restraint and reaffirmed Japan’s unequivocal support for India’s anti-terror efforts. He called for bringing the culprits to justice and strengthening international cooperation in combating terrorism.

The Indian delegation also met H.E. Mr Yoshihide Suga, Former Prime Minister of Japan and Chairman of the Japan-India Association, and H.E. Mr Takashi Endo, Chairman of the National Security Committee of Japan’s House of Representatives. Both leaders reiterated Japan’s support for India’s security concerns and counter-terrorism stance.

Further, the delegation held interactions with key Japanese think tanks, sharing India’s policy on zero tolerance for terrorism and the broader strategic objectives behind Operation Sindoor. The intellectual community in Japan expressed strong backing for India’s approach to national and global security.

Concluding the visit, the Indian delegation paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue in Edogawa, Tokyo — a symbolic gesture underscoring India’s enduring commitment to peace even in its fight against terrorism.

The visit by the Indian parliamentary delegation to Japan comes at a crucial time and reinforces India’s global diplomatic outreach in combating terrorism. With Japan extending strong support, the bilateral relationship continues to gain strategic depth, particularly in security cooperation and shared democratic values.
