The four peak mountaineering expedition was ceremoniously flagged off today by Shri Ashok Kumar, IPS, Inspector General (Training), at Border Security Force Institute of Adventure and Advance Training (BIAAT), Doiwala, Dehradun (Uttrakhand). This include Mt. Yunam (6111 M), Mt. Thugje (6128m), Mt Thugje East (6080m) and Mt. Mentok (6250m) in the Lahaul and Ladakh region. This expedition holds a dual purpose: to pay homage to 13 Mountaineers of BSF who lost their lives during 1995 Expedition for Mt Saser Kangri-1 (7672 M) in Nubra Valley, Karakoram Range and to spearhead the “Swachh Bharat – Clean Himalaya” and “हम FIT तो INDIA FIT” campaign.
35 members, comprising climbers, support staff, Medical Staff and Transport Staff, are participating in this groundbreaking 34 days expedition. This 2025-expedition is for imparting Advance High Altitude Alpine training to four, 6000 mtr high peaks to enhance the climbing capabilities of mountaineers.
The team represents a blend of highly seasoned climbers with numerous successful ascents to their name and freshly recruited climbers eager to prove their mettle at these heights. In a historic moment for BSF and in sync with our commitment to women empowerment, Mahila Praharis will also attempt to conquer these high peaks. The team is under the capable leadership of Padmashree Loveraj Singh Dharamshaktu, Deputy Commandant, the only mountaineer in India to have summited Mt. Everest seven times.
Adhering to the sacred precept of keeping the mighty Himalayas pristine and trash-free, our team members will undertake the responsibility of collecting waste also from higher camps, ranging from heights of 14,000 feet to 20,500 feet, on their descent for proper disposal. This conscientious campaign aims to spread a powerful message of environmental preservation and the prevention of global warming to maases while sensitizing fellow mountaineers and trekkers to the “Swachh Bharat – Clean Himalaya” and “हम FIT तो INDIA FIT” initiative.

BSF boasts an illustrious history in mountaineering, with this distinguished team comprising a Padma Shree awardee and two National Adventure Awardees. Notably, BSF’s mountaineering prowess includes two successful ascents of Mount Everest in 2006 and 2018, the formidable Mt. Kanchanjunga in 2008, Mt. Lhotse in 2021, Mt. Manaslu in 2023 and 47 other Himalayan peaks.
