The team aspires to support the Indian defence industry and Indian Navy to realise the policy of “Make in India” and its self-reliance objectives.

A long-lasting industrial cooperation between Naval Group and India Naval Group in India was created in 2008 as a 100% owned subsidiary of the group to ensure a long lasting presence in the country, thereby demonstrating the strong commitment to the Indian Navy. This partnership led to the establishment of a sustainable industrial ecosystem which fosters the indigenous manufacturing of submarines.

The P75 program is an illustration of the successful indigenisation process. The first submarine of the class, INS Kalvari, built by Mazagon Dock and Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) with our transfer of technology, was commissioned on 14 December 2017 in the presence of Prime Minister  Narendra Modi. The second submarine called Khanderi was launched at the beginning of 2017, has initiated her sea trials and will be commissioned this year. The remaining four submarines will be commissioned by 2022-23.

Today’s celebration also highlights the strength and sustainability of the Indo-French partnership and the continued cooperation with the Indian Navy as Naval Group’s main customer.

Rear Admiral Rahul Shrawat, Chairman and Managing Director, declared: “It is indeed a proud moment for all of us in Naval Group to celebrate ten years of robust and constructive business in India. It is a success for both our dedicated engineering and projects team and our highly trained subcontractors and partners. Today we are significantly extending our presence in India to finish the prestigious P75 submarine project while gearing up to take the lead for the maintenance of these submarines built on the corpène® design.”

Building the future

On the occasion of 10 years of business in India, senior members of management from the Paris headquarters visited the subsidiary in Mumbai and shared the moment of joy with the local team. They discussed strategic topics extensively, including investments in the Indian team, resources and their capabilities in order to ensure the continuity of the roadmap.
