Mumbai International Airport Completes Runway Maintenance, Strengthening Monsoon ResilienceMumbai, 8 May 2025: Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), operated by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) has successfully concluded scheduled runway maintenance, making it monsoon ready. In a calibrated six-hour operation from 1100 hrs to 1700 hrs, both RWY 14/32 and RWY 09/27 were thoroughly inspected and restored to optimal condition. The entire operation was executed efficiently and according to a well-structured plan, ensuring there were no disruptions to flight schedules. This annual preventative runway maintenance is undertaken to optimise the airport’s operational efficiency. As a critical aviation hub handling over 950 daily flight movements, CSMIA continues to prioritise infrastructure resilience and passenger safety without compromise.

As a part of this large-scale preventative maintenance activity, CSMIA carried out pavement maintenance, electrical (AGL and substation) maintenance, rubber removal on the runway, surface marking and major drain cleaning work. A dedicated team thoroughly inspected over 3,000 runway lights for signs of wear and tear. Additionally, drain pits and chambers along the runway strip, as well as critical lighting, IT, and navigational aid cables, were inspected for integrity. With over 950 air traffic movements each day, CSMIA consistently ensures continuity of operations through regular checks and repairs to maintain runway health.
