National Academy of Defence Production (NADP), Nagpur, today hosted a series of high-impact academic and professional events that reinforced its role as a premier centre of learning and thought leadership in defence management. The highlight of the day was the launch of the book “Nuances of Technology Transfer in Defence Domain & its Mathematical Modelling” authored by Dr. Lakshman Singh, Chief Manager (Projects), HAL-Korwa, and Mr. Gaurav Yadav, Chief Manager (IIM), AOD, HAL-Nasik.

The book, enriched by the authors’ first-hand experience in handling complex technology transfers within Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, offers rare insights into the mechanisms, challenges, and strategic implications of Technology Transfer (ToT) in the defence sector. It includes a foreword by Pankaj Saran, former Deputy National Security Adviser of India and one of the country’s most distinguished diplomats, along with contributions from senior HAL leadership. Speaking at the launch, Shri Saran emphasised that technology transfer is not merely a contractual arrangement but a strategic enabler of self-reliance, innovation, and industrial strength in the defence sector.

The event was also graced by Saket Chaturvedi, CEO (MiG Complex), HAL, who underlined the importance of institutionalising ToT learnings across defence production units. Other dignitaries echoed the sentiment that the book would serve as a valuable reference for policymakers, industry professionals, and academicians engaged in strengthening India’s defence industrial base.

Special remarks were shared by Prajnadipta Mohanty, IOFS, NDC, Ex. Addl. Director General Ordnance (CS), Shri Kamlesh Kumar Srivastava, Chief of Projects, HAL Korwa, Amethi, Shri Subrata Mondal, GM-AOD, HAL Nasik.

NADP also started the 1 week module of its Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Management (E-PGDM), reflecting its commitment to advanced management education tailored for the defence ecosystem. The module drew active participation from officers of various Defence PSUs, providing them with contemporary perspectives on technology management.

Further, the first week of the 2-week Mid-Career Training Programme (MCTP-2) for IOFS officers with 14–16 years of service also commenced. This programme, aims to equip mid-level officers with the managerial and strategic skills required to navigate the evolving challenges of defence production and public sector management.

Adding to the day’s vibrancy, the Innovation & Incubation Cell (IIC) and E-Cell of NADP hosted a one-day workshop on Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer. The workshop focused on the strategic imperative of IP management and innovation-led growth, reinforcing the importance of knowledge-driven ecosystems in achieving Atmanirbharta in defence.

Speaking on the occasion, J.P. Dash, Principal Director, NADP, observed that the day’s events collectively demonstrated NADP’s multi-dimensional growth, from management education and officer development to policy-relevant research and innovation promotion. He noted that ToT, as highlighted by all dignitaries, will remain a cornerstone for advancing India’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

With the successful convergence of the book launch, E-PGDM, MCTP-2, and the IIC workshop, NADP has further solidified its position as a knowledge hub diversifying into multiple domains of management, technology, and policy.
