12 August 2016. A case of irregularity in the purchase of various types of Hume pipes was noticed in Project Vartak (44 BRTF) of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for which an internal Court of Inquiry has been ordered by BRO in October 2014. The Court of Inquiry has been finalized in May 2016 under the Orders of Director General Border Roads (DGBR). 10 Officers and 16 Subordinates are found to be responsible for the irregularities. Disciplinary / administrative action against these Officers and Subordinates has been ordered.
However, no irregularity has been reported so far in procurement of Hume Pipes in Projects Himank, Vijayak, Sampark, Sewak and Swastik.
The following measures have been taken to check reoccurrence of such irregularities:
Instructions have been issued to all Projects of BRO for E-procurement and also to streamline the procedure for ensuring transparency.
Inspection of works on roads is carried out regularly by the executives at Project, Task Force level and also by Regional Inspection Teams to ensure the quality of works.
Instructions have been issued to all Projects of BRO to streamline the procedure to avoid reoccurrence of such irregularities.
