Singapore.  23 October,2015. Airbus Defence and Space and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) have signed a research and development agreement following a call for innovative research proposals named ‘Astrium Innova’.

The agreement, signed at the Singapore Space Symposium at NTU Singapore, will focus on NTU’s winning research proposal “Interference Management for Emerging Satellite Communication Networks”.

Airbus Defence and Space held an open call for research proposals covering innovative space technologies, and NTU had the only successful entry.

The agreement, for two years, will look to identify innovative methods to manage interference that will increase in future high capacity multi-beam satellite transmissions, as technology advances and the market expands. This will enable greater growth opportunities for operators, especially using multi-beam and multi-satellite systems.

The project will involve a core team at NTU Singapore working together with Airbus Defence and Space in the UK and Airbus Group Innovations in Singapore.

Present at the signing were Prof. Thambipillai Srikanthan (Chair of NTU’s School of Computer Engineering) and Prof. A. S. Madhukumar (Principal Investigator of the proposal at NTU Singapore), Prof. Vinod Achutavarrier Prasad (Co-Investigator at NTU Singapore), Johan Pelissier (Head of Airbus Defence and Space Singapore), Dr Timo Bretschneider (Head of Airbus Group Innovations Singapore), Dr Anoop Kumar Krishna (Airbus Group Innovations Singapore) and Paolo Bianco (Airbus Defence and Space Global R&T).

Johan Pelissier, Head of Airbus Defence and Space in Singapore, said: “This agreement will reinforce the relationship established with NTU, especially in the space arena, and will contribute to our commitment to developing innovative solutions in Singapore.”

Prof. Thambipillai Srikanthan, Chair for NTU’s School of Computer Engineering, said: “Our seven year partnership with Airbus is now at a higher level.
