Toulouse, France. 24 May 2018.  Safran Engineering Services has been chosen by Airbus Defence & Space to provide a software component for EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service), the European system responsible for improving the performance of satellite geolocation.
This new critical software development contract will allow it to enter the space industry, in addition to aeronautics. This third version of the EGNOS system – which was entrusted to Airbus Defence & Space and financed by the European Commission, under the responsibility of the European Space Agency – aims to be more accurate, in order to increase air traffic.
“This is our first partnership with Airbus Defence & Space on a complete software work package. We are very proud to support this new client and to enter the space industry. It is thanks to our expertise in the development of critical on-board software, landing gears and aircraft computers, as well as the attention we bring to commercial offerings, that we were awarded this contract. We now have four years to develop the solution. We will then handle maintenance of the service over the subsequent four years,” said Grégory Mayeur, President of Safran Engineering Services.
Airbus Defence & Space has contracted Safran Engineering Services for the development of the Integrity Chain Facility software component, the aim of which is to verify the integrity of the navigation system developed by the computing center.
“A newcomer in satellite navigation, Safran brings a great deal of credibility in the development of the integrity chain and its critical software,” declared Philippe Charvet, EGNOS V3 Project Manager, Airbus.
