Border Action Team/ BAT is a special operations team originally created by the Special Services Group(SSG) of Pakistan Army. BAT consists of small teams of SSG commandos and highly trained terrorists. They are trained in Guerilla warfare, jungle warfare and small team concepts to inflict maximum damage on the Indian soldiers.Alternately, BAT is also used to help infiltrate terrorists into India and yesterday’s attack was one such.

Deliberate search operation was launched, in areas close to the Line of Control, during which the bodies of slain terrorists were recovered by the troops. Army also recovered few weapons and warlike stores. This is the fourth infiltration attempt foiled in Uri sector in last five months.

Uri is located on the left bank of the Jhelum River, about 10 kilometres east of the Line of Control with Pakistan. In the last couple of years Uri has been the point of major attacks including the 18thSeptember 2017 attack on the Army Brigade which saw the loss of 14 Indian soldiers.
