New Delhi, May 28, 2025 In a pioneering initiative to bring menstrual and reproductive health to the forefront for women in uniformed services, the Himveer Wives‘ Welfare Association (HWWA) of Indo–Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), in collaboration with SHEWings Foundation, organised a comprehensive awareness seminar at 22 Battalion, ITBP, Tigri Camp, New Delhi, on the occasion of Menstrual Hygiene Day.
Titled “Menstrual and Reproductive Health for Women in Forward Deployment“, the seminar was specially designed for ITBP’s women personnel to empower them with knowledge, medical access, and hygienic solutions to manage menstruation and related challenges in remote and extreme deployment areas.
The event witnessed the gracious presence of Dr. Vijaya K. Rahatkar, Chairperson, National Commission for Women, who appreciated the initiative and shared her personal story to highlight the need for open and respectful conversations around menstruation.
“When your daughter has her first period, speak to her, celebrate with her, within the family, in a very graceful manner,” she urged, recalling how her own grandmother supported her with warmth and positivity.
A panel discussion by eminent gynaecologists and public health experts was also conducted to provide scientific insights and answer queries related to menstrual and reproductive health. The panel included Dr. Gauri Agarwal, Dr. Mamta Goel, Dr. Shyam Sundar, Dr. Prerna Sharma, Dr. Preeti, Bina Mansukh, and Harshika, who were later felicitated for their outstanding contributions.
In her address, Ms. Gauri Rasgotra, President, HWWA, said,
“We are happy that HWWA has hosted such a meaningful programme. It highlights the understanding that menstrual health is not just about hygiene–it is about physical, mental, and emotional well–being.”
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Smt. Harshika Burman, Secretary, HWWA, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and partners for making the seminar a success.
