1624 – Sir Thomas Warner founds the first English colony in the Caribbean, on Saint Kitts.

1819 – British Statesman and Founder of Singapore Sir Stamford Raffles lands in Singapore

1855 – The first locomotive runs from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean on the Panama Railway.

1878 – 1st telephone exchange (New Haven, CT)

1887 – Work begins on the Eiffel Tower in Paris

1933 –  The name “Pakistan” is coined by Choudhry Rahmat Ali, gradually it is accepted by Muslims in the Indian sub-continent who use it to push for a separate Muslim homeland in South Asia

1986 – Space Shuttle program: STS-51-L mission – Space Shuttle Challenger explodes after liftoff, killing all seven astronauts on board.
