New Delhi. 03 December 2016. In an interesting session on The New US President and South Asia talking about the prevailing circumstances in the world and the implications of Donald Trump’s presidency over India, Dr. Daniel Twining said, “There is a misunderstanding in India about US military’s relationship with Pakistan. The US military has become much harder on Pakistan and much warmer on India. Donald Trump will be harder on China; going to pursue a defense buildup”.

“Trump likes winners, and India is a vigorous winner in the global economy. So Trump is going to double down on India,” said Dr Twining. Adding to this, Dr Alyssa Ayres said that Donald Trumps’ presidency is a chance for India to become important to the US. “The H-1B has been a long problem between US and India. That friction is something both governments will have to talk about,” Dr. Ayres added further.

Talking about Mr. Modi and Barak Obama, Dr. Alyssa Ayres said, “Climate change and clean energy were the key areas of connect between them. Donald Trump’s focus will be different”.

On Donald Trump’s agenda for first 100 days, Dr. Daniel Twining said, “I think Trump is an isolationist… Trump is going to shake up US. You’ll see a big push for tax reforms, infra investments.” He also said that Donald Trump has promised to hike defense speeding. This will help the US to cooperate better with countries like India.
