New Delhi. 26 Jul 2016. Lieutenant General Velu Nair, Director General of Medical Services (Army) and Colonel Commandant flagged in the Mt Leo Purgyil Army Medical Corps Expedition Team at Army Hospital (Research & Referral), Delhi Cantonment, today. The team leader, Lt Col Rajesh Adhau, a Kargil War veteran, handed over the customary ice axe of the expedition to the DGMS (Army).

1A team of five Medical Officers and two other ranks of the Army Medical Corps led by Lt Col Rajesh Adhau, Maj Sudhir Dubey, Maj Rakesh Sharma, Capt Vinay Baunthiyal, Capt Arashdeep Singh and Nursing Assistant Sep Jerry and Sep Ajith along with supporting staff, started the expedition on 11 July 2016. The team took an unrelenting climb of 12 hours through ice walls, crevasses and soft snow, to summit Mt Leo Purgyil (6791m), a peak at the southern end of the Zanskar Range in Kinnaur district, on 12 July 2016.
